Net contributors want to keep EU-spending stable

In a joint letter to the European Commission on December 18th, Germany  France,  the Netherlands, Finland and the United Kingdom called for the EU budget to be frozen.

EU leaders said payment appropriations should increase at most by no more than inflation while the level of commitment appropriations should not exeed the 2013 level with a growth rate below the rate of inflation. “European public spending cannot be exempt from the considerable efforts made by the member states to bring their public spending under control”.
